It is the country’s first-ever WTA 125 tournament.
Major renovation works are now underway at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate, Manila, with the Philippine Sports Commission and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) teaming up for the construction.
This is being done as the complex’s tennis courts and adjunct support facilities will be at the center of the action once the inaugural Philippine Women’s Open commences in late January.
Part of the works being done are repainting of the fences, as well as the setting up of bleachers for the attendees.
PSC Chairman Patrick ‘Pato’ Gregorio noted on the ongoing works, “The RMSC transformation kicks off with the perfect partner. Thank you to DPWH led by Sec. Vince Dizon, for the all-out support for sports tourism.”
The said major tennis event is the first-ever WTA 125 tournament to be hosted by the Philippines, which also happens as Filipina player Alex Eala, who is currently World No. 53, continues to make waves in the international scene.
The historic Philippine Women’s Open is slated to happen from January 26 to 31, 2026.
