The Filipino boxer is one of the four boxers from the country that made it to the finals.
On Friday, December 19, four athletes from the Philippine boxing team competed in their respective students active categories at the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand.
Only four athletes were left standing in the final round of the sport, with three male boxers in Eumir Marcial, Flint Jara, and Jay Bryan Baricuatro, with Aira Villegas in the female divison.
Marcial, who had also represented the country in the Olympics, had a gritty match against his Indonesian opponent, Maikhe Roberrd Muskita, in the Men’s 80kg category.
But in a split decision, with three judges in favor of the Filipino boxer over two for his rival, Eumir was able to secure the Philippines’ lone gold in this edition.
Meanwhile, it was silver for Jara, Baricuatro, and Villegas, who all competed today as well.
Flint Jara settled for silver after losing his match against Thailand’s Thanarat Saengphet via unanimous decision in the Men’s Boxing 54kg.
Jay Bryan Baricuatro also added another silver medal for the Philippines after from his Men’s Boxing 48kg fight against hometown bet Thitiwat Phlongaurai, which ended in a split decision that favored the Thai boxer.
Meanwhile, Marcial’s fellow Olympian and Paris 2024 bronze medalist Aira Villegas, bagged her silver from the Women’s Boxing 50kg, where she was defeated via a unanimous decision that voted in favor of another Thai athlete, Chuthamat Raksat.
