After many years of waiting for their promotion in the public school system.

According to the Department of Education (DepEd), 16,025 teachers have been promoted under the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) system.

The agency noted that the promotion of 41,183 teachers have been processed and have been submitted to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for the next batch.

As per the records of the Education department, 18,007 want to get the maximum  three-salary-grade leap, with 29,017 others want to get the one to two salary grade increase while DepEd is still addressing regional backlogs and hastening the mobility of teachers.

In terms of the three-step advancements, 3,171 were able to leap from Teacher I to Teacher IV, 3,374 from Teacher II to Teacher V, and 11,462 from Teacher III to Teacher VI, and 16,883 Teacher I to Teacher III.

DepEd also cited that all regions have processed appointments, which it says reflects the wide and immediate implementation of the new career progression structure.

“Maraming guro ang matagal nang handang umangat. Ang responsibilidad namin ay alisin ang sagabal at tiyaking gumagalaw ang sistema para sa kanila. Dapat nararanasan nila ang pag-angat habang nasa serbisyo pa. Sabi nga ng Pangulo, dapat walang magreretirong Teacher I,” said Education Secretary Sonny Angara.

To ensure sustained reforms, the National Educators Academy of the Philippines will expand its training and leadership preparation programs, as well as give priority to Teacher I that are nearing retirement for reclassification or promotion.
