GOT7’s Youngjae begins mandatory military service

The K-pop star is the latest member of the band to be conscripted.

On Thursday, November 27, GOT7 member Youngjae is set to begin his mandatory military service, which is required for all able-bodied Korean male between 18 to 35 years old.

His entry comes less than a month after his agency, AndBut Company, announced his enlistment date and details regarding it.

In a prior statement, it was also revealed that there will be no separate send-off or any activities set up for him.

To quietly and sincerely carry out his duties, there will be no separate send-off or other official event,” it wrote in its letter.

AndBut continued, “We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all fans for your unwavering love and support, and we ask that you continue to send your warm encouragement to Youngjae throughout his service period.

The idol is set to fulfill his duty by becoming a social service worker and is set to be discharged in August 2027 after a 21-month term.

He is the fourth and last member of GOT7 to serve in the military, following leader JAYB, Jinyoung, and Yugyeom, with the lattermost having begun his service earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Mark, Jackson, and BamBam, who have foreign nationalities, are exempted.

Youngjae debuted together with the group in 2014. Since then, they have released songs like like If You Do, Just Right, Hard Carry, Never Ever, You Are, Lullaby, and You Calling My Name, among many others.

Last January, they made a full-group comeback after three years with the extended play Winter Heptagon, which carries the lead track Python.

The 29-year-old singer then made his debut as a solist in October 2021 with the extended play Colors From Ars, which had the carrier single Vibin’.

It was later followed by another extended play in Sugar in 2022, his first full-length studio album Do It in 2023, and the single albums T.P.O. and Fermata in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
