Ahead of their scheduled appearance in a summit this weekend.
On Friday, November 14, the high-profile real-life couple, actor George Clooney and international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, paid a courtesy call to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the Malacañan Palace in Manila.
Also present during that moment were First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, where the discussion centered around efforts to strengthen press freedom in the country.
According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Amal highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to broaden access to justice.
That idea was then welcomed by President Marcos, who added the need for responsible regulation to ensure the ethical and secure use of AI.
The President, according to the agency, “reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to upholding press freedom” and expressed his hope that the visit of the couple to the country would be both meaningful and enjoyable.
This visit to the Palace comes ahead of the Clooneys appearance in the Social Good Summit 2025 hosted by the online news platform Rappler on November 16 in Pasay City.
They are expected to speak about global challenges affecting free speech and civil liberties at the said event.
