He and his companions were called out on social media for their behavior.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, October 5, OPM singer-songwriter Maki wrote and lengthy message directed to ONCEs, fans of the K-pop girl group TWICE.
This was due to his group’s actions during Korean music acts’s ‘This Is For’ concert at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan last Saturday, October 4.
Maki and his entourage were in the seated area of the arena, yet they were filmed standing up multiple times in various parts of the show, which led to complaints from other fans for blocking their view.
Some also pointed out etiquette when attending K-pop concerts in the country, where it is generally frowned upon to stand up unless the performers themselves instruct the audience to do so.
In his post, Maki wrote, “[B]efore this day ends, I just want to tell everyone behind us during the concert that I sincerely apologize also in behalf of my siblings [sad face emoji]. [I]f I could go back and undo it, I would [sad face emoji].”
The hitmaker also noted that “the least thing” he wanted to happen was to “take someone else’s moment during the concert” just so their group could enjoy. “[I]t really wasn’t our intention and we got too excited,” he explained.
“[N]ot that it’s an excuse but it really is our first time to this K-pop concert culture [experience] since we’ve never been in any na we really know all the dance and songs. It was our dream to go there and I know it’s also yours too. I’m really sorry,” Maki continued.
He then promised that the incident would not happen again and requested for people to stop calling other individuals names if they want them to learn from their mistakes. “Rather, to be constructive is the best way to let them learn from their mistakes.”
“So, spare my brother on this, it was my fault for not teaching him well. Sorry, ONCE [sad emoji].“
