Following a malfunction in one of the line’s stations on Friday.
In its statement on Saturday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) directed the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC)—the private operator of LRT-1—to provide immediate assistance to passengers who were injured following the malfunctioning of an escalator in FPJ Avenue station on Friday, August 15.
One female passenger was reportedly brought to the hospital for check-ups, and was discharged within two hours. Meanwhile, six other passengers opted to go home after receiving first aid on site.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said that LRMC must always prioritize the reliability of LRT-1’s facilities to ensure the safety and welfare of commuters.
“Inutusan ko na ang LRMC na bigyan ng agarang tulong ‘yung mga nasaktang pasahero, at ayusin agad ‘yung nasirang escalator,” said Dizon.
As of 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, the DOTr said that the affected escalator has been repaired and cleared for safe public use.
“The DOTr assures the public that it will continue working closely with LRMC to prevent similar incidents happening in the future,” it added.
