The rising Filipina star will take time to heal her injury.
In a post on its website, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) disclosed that Alex Eala has decided to beg off from the upcoming Cincinatti Open from August 5 to 18, 2025.
According to it, the 20-year-old Filipina tennis star will be taking her time to recuperate as she recently suffered from a shoulder injury.
This announcement came after Eala bowed out in the first round of the National Bank Open in Montreal, Canada on Monday, July 28, after competing against World No. 6 and Czech player Marketa Vondrousova.
In an Instagram post, Alex shared her moments from the tournament and wrote in the caption, “Pretty in pink. Montreal was a short but sweet trip. I had so much fun out on court! Time to rest and recover.”
Alex has set multiple records for herself and the country this year as she became the first Filipina to enter the finals and finish as a runner-up of a WTA final in the 2025 Eastbourne Open last June.
Recently, she also made her return to the Philippines, where she was able to meet her family, friends, as well as other people who help make her tennis journey possible.
