The major news outlets have called on the Israeli authorities for the welfare of the media workers.
In a rare move on Thursday, July 24, global news outlets, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Agence France-Presse (AFP), and the Associated Press (AP) have issued a joint statement.
The said release was in relation to the ongoing conflict at the Gaza Strip in the Middle East, which has already affected even those covering it, the journalists themselves and their families.
“We are desperately concerned for our journalists in Gaza, who are increasingly unable to feed themselves and their families,” the statement opened.
It added that these independent, or so-called freelance, journalists that reported the horrifying state of the strip are now facing the very situation faced by the people they are covering.
“For many months, these independent journalists have been the world’s eyes and ears on the ground in Gaza. They are now facing the same dire circumstances as those they are covering.“
While the nature of the job includes many hardships and deprivations in warzones, the three outfits said, they are still “deeply alarmed” that the threat of starvation is now one of them.
In line with this, the parties experessed their renewed call to the Israel government, saying, “We once again urge the Israeli authorities to allow journalists in and out of Gaza and to ensure that adequate food supplies reach the people there.”
