In separate advisories, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2, and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-3 have announced their a joint special program next week.
In celebration of the 127th Independence Day of the Philippines, the three train lines will offer the free access to all passengers from 7:00 am to 9:00 am in the morning and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the evening.
According to Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Administrator Hernando Cabrera, “Ang libreng sakay na ito ay isang pasasalamat at paggunita sa atin kalayaan. Buong puso kaming nagpupugay sa ating mga bayani sa kanilang tapang, sakripisyo, at walang kapantay na pagmamahal sa bansa. Nawa’y lagi nating isapuso ang diwa ng kanilang bayanihan.“
Meanwhile, the MRT management said the the free train rides are in line with President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr.’s directive of giving affordable commute to the public.
As for the Light Rail Manila Corporation that operates Line 1, it assured passengers that the line will be running its usual time from 5:00 am to 9:30 pm on the said day.
Previously, the government held a 4-day Libreng Sakay program during Labor Day, leading to increased ridership that trumped pre-pandemic passenger volume for all three lines.
