The agency was quick to issue a clarification on the matter.

In an advisory on Saturday, May 31, the Department of Health (DOH) denied the circulating social media posts claiming that lockdowns have been or are to be implemented due to Mpox.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health further shared that they are working with local governments to provide the correct medical services to those that have been infected.

To provide clarity about the numbers, the DOH revealed that there are more cases reported in 2024 than this year, while the count for April 2025 was also higher than this May.

Additionally, the department has not yet recoded cases of Mpox Clade I-b, with patients mostly having the Clade II strain—which has a significantly lower mortality rate.
