The agency also reminded the public to follow minimum health standards.
In its statement on Saturday, May 17, the Philippines’ Department of Health said that it is “actively monitoring” COVID-19 trends in the region.
This, as neighboring countries and territory like Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong reported higher than usual case counts in recent days..
“We are actively coordinating through established mechanisms like the ASEAN. This gives us verified information, boosting readiness even as we see no cause for alarm,” the health department wrote.
It also revealed that the Philippines, as of May 3, 2025, observed an 87% drop in cases and fatalities from the the whole of 2024, with only 1,774 COVID-19 cases reported this year compared to 14,074 the previous year, with the case fatality rate is only 1.13%.
“Recent trends also indicate a slight decrease in reported cases over the past three to four weeks. From 71 cases in the week of March 23 to April 5, 2025, it has decreased to 65 cases from April 6 to 19,” the DOH further noted.
Meanwhile, to prevent panic, the DOH encouraged the public to tune into their official channels to stay informed with timely updates that they will provide, should the situation evolve.
Additionally, it also reiterated the continued practicing of the same preventive measures that protect from other diseases apart from COVID-19.
This include the wearing face masks in healthcare facilities; staying at home when sick; and covering mouth when coughing and sneezing; and seeking early consultation for symptoms.
Also specified was the regular washing of hands with soap and water.
