These will occupy the allotted 63 seats in the Lower House in the upcoming 20th Congress.
On Monday, May 19, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), which serves as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), held its proclamation ceremony for the winning party-lists in the 2025 national midterm polls that took place the previous week.
Present are the nominees of these “sector groups,” which are at least 53 in total according to chairman George Garcia.
Leading the pack is Akbayan partylist, which made its successful turnaround in this year’s elections after getting the first place in the race with 2,779,621 votes, enabling them to secure three seats in the next Congress.
The second and third-ranked groups, Duterte Youth (2,338,564 votes) and Tingog (1,822,708 votes) are guaranteed to get three seats with their performance.
However, Duterte Youth’s proclamation has been suspended by the COMELEC, pending the result of a 2019 protest the challenges the validity of its registration.
Aside from them, Bagong Henerasyon party-list, likewise facing its own legal contest, will also have their proclamation suspended.
Both groups have since said in their respective comments that they will be challenging the NBOC’s decision.
Meanwhile, sure to get two seats each are 4PS, ACT-CIS, and Ako Bicol. As for the rest of the winners of the party-list votes, they will be taking their guaranteed 1 seat each in the 20th Congress.
The proclamation of the party-list groups is the fastest in the country’s election history, succeeding the 2019 polls when the NBOC proclaimed winners after 9 days.
Today’s event follows the previous ceremony last Saturday, May 17, where the 12 senators-elect were officially proclaimed—which also happened in the record time, clocking in five days after the nationwide polls last May 12.
