Within hours after the closing of polling centers on Monday, May 12, Vice President Sara Duterte issued a statement through her official channels.
Duterte said that she acknowledges the results of the election, and also expressed her deep gratitude to supporters who stood with the “Duter10” slate throughout the campaign.
However, she bluntly called the result as something that they had not exactly hoped for.
“While the outcome was not what we had hoped for, our commitment to the people remains unwavering.”
Among her team’s slate, those who successfully made it to the Magic 12, or the winning circle, are re-electionists senators Bong Go (#1), Bato dela Rosa (#3), Imee Marcos (#12), and first-timer Rodante Marcoleta (#6).
Rep. Camille Villar, who is also part of the Marcos administration-backed Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas and was endorsed by VP Sara in the final stretch of the campaign, is currently sitting at #10.
The Vice President furthered, “We will continue to hold the government accountable, advocate for the issues that matter, and work tirelessly to serve as a strong and constructive opposition.”
Duterte also called on her supporters to join them in this “renewed beginning,” as she continued to insist her role as the “opposition” of the Marcos, Jr. administration.
Prior to the start of the official campaign period, on February 5, the House of Representatives voted to impeach VP Sara, citing mounting complaints that ranged from her alleged misuse of confidential funds to the threat she made against the Marcos family and House Speaker Martin Romualdez in November 2024.
The Senate, which will serve as the Impeachment Court, is expected to begin the trial in July 2025 or after President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr.’s fourth state of the nation address.
