The singer passed away after a battle with cancer.

The singer passed away after a battle with cancer.

In a statement on Tuesday, April 22, the family of original Filipino music (OPM) icon and the one-and-only ‘Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala,’ Hajji Alejandro, confirmed his passing.

The announcement read, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Son, Angelito ‘Hajji’ T. Alejandro.”

“At this time, we kindly ask for privacy as our family grieves this tremendous loss,” the family requested to the public.

“We appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult time. To God be the glory,” the statement ended.

Hajji is best known for his song ‘Kay Ganda Ng Ating Musika,’ and is popularly known to the masses as the ‘Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala‘ of the local music scene.

It was in February when the OPM legend was reportedly rushed to the hospital due to stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to his lungs and liver.

In an interview with TV5 anchor Julius Babao, his partner, Alynna Vasquez, shared that Alejandro had undergone an operation that month, and was put into intensive care after suffering from seizures.

He was later discharged last March as his condition improved.

Hajji has two daughters, singer Rachel Alejandro and Barni, and one son, Ali.
