The tri-weekly flight connects both major cities.
On Wednesday, April 3, the first direct flight of Canadian flag carrier Air Canada from the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in Manila.
The event was attended by multiple personalities, led by Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, Air Canada’s Managing Director Rocky Lo, and Canadian Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. David Hartman.
The ribbon-and cake-cutting ceremony highlighted the 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The thrice-a-week service utilizes the airline’s three of its Boeing 787-9 planes.
“The Philippines is an important market reflecting longstanding family ties between our two countries with growing business connections and tourism opportunities,” Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning Mark Galardo said.
Schedules also indicate that flight AC17 from Vancouver to Manila departing every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, while the return AC18 flight leaves the Philippines’ capital on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Additional flights will also be added come May 1, 2025.
Air Canada’s Vancouver-Manila route is the flag carrier’s 12th in its transpacific network, which connects its home country to destinations like Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea.
