The Palace has commented on the developing matter.
In a statement by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the Philippine government confirmed that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued a warrant of arrest against former President Rodrigo Duterte.
This, as he is being subjected to an official investigation on his controversial war on drugs and is being charged with crimes against humanity at the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands.
According to the Palace, the Interpol Manila office received the copy of the warrant before dawn on Tuesday, March 11.
The Prosecutor General then served the ICC order to Duterte, who arrived at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from Hong Kong, past 9 in the morning.
“Our President and his companions are in good health condition and have been tested by the government’s doctor,” adding that they are assuring his well-being.
Moreover, the officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) wore body cameras during the time of the former President’s arrest.
As of writing, Duterte remains in the custody of authorities, as confirmed by his staunch ally, Senator Bong Go.
