The President made his way to the province.
On Thursday, March 6, President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos headed to the Cabagan-Sta. Maria bridge in Isabela, which collapsed last February 27.
“Ang ending nito, ang puno’t dulo nito design flaw. It is a design flaw, mali ‘yung design,” Marcos said in his speech near the site.
He noted that the original funding of Php 1.8 billion was cut to Php 900 million to “reduce expenses.”
“Ang history kasi nito dapat ang funding nito was supposed to be P1.8 billion. Binawasan to under P1 billion para makamura,” the President said.
Additionally, he also pinpointed that its lack of cables even if it was designed a suspension bridge also contributed to its lack of structural integrity.
Marcos said, “Design is really weak. This is supposed to be a suspension bridge, nakasabit.”
He continued, “Ito lang ang suspension bridge na nakita ko sa buong mundo na hindi kable at iyan na mismo ang bumigay.“
The bridge collapsed last Thursday, February 27, affecting four vehicles traversing the road at that time, with no reported casualties.
