The star and the tourism department are teaming up to promote the nation.
On Friday, February 21, the Philippines’ Department of Tourism, led by Secretary Christina Frasco, welcomed Korean actor-singer Seo In Guk as the country’s newest celebrity tourism ambassador for Korea.
According to DOT, Seo’s appointment is recognizant of his global influence and deep connection with Filipino fans.
“We are very honored to be in the presence of a man who is beloved worldwide for his vast talent endless creativity and now, his evident love for the Philippines,” Secretary Frasco said.
She added, “This appointment strengthens the cultural and tourism exchanges between the Philippines and Korea,” describing South Korea as the top source market for the Philippines, and conversely, the country is also home to a thriving Korean community and a great consumer of products from the East Asian country.
Moroever, Frasco anticipates that the partnership with Seo will allow the agency to deepen the love of South Koreans to the “very many wonders of our beautiful nation,” such as the pristine shores of Boracay, the waves of Siargao, the dive sites of Cebu, and the lush landscapes of Bukidnon.
As part of his duties as ambassador, the Korean star will be visiting various tourist spots in the Philippines.
Seo In Guk has starred in multiple television drama series over the years, like ‘Reply 1997,’ ‘Master’s Sun,’ ‘Hello Monster,’ ‘Shopping King Louie,’ ‘The Smile Has Left Your Eyes,’ and ‘Café Minamdang’.
He also did a movie with another Hallyu star Lee Jong Suk titled ‘No Breathing’ which was partially shot in Davao, Philippines back in 2013.
The 37-year-old actor has also been casted as Blackpink’s Jisoo’s partner in the upcoming series titled ‘Boyfriend On Demand’ that will be streamed on Netflix.
