First BARMM parliamentary elections postponed until October

The elections commission confirmed the news on Friday.

The elections commission confirmed the news on Friday.

During his speech, Chairman George Garcia of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said that President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos has signed into law a bill postponing the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

According to Garcia, the BARMM polls have been rescheduled from Monday, May 12 — in conjunction with the national midterm elections on that day — to October 13, 2025.

“Para po sa inyong kaalaman….I was informed by Malacanang earlier that the president already signed the bill postponing the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections from May to October 13 of this year,” the COMELEC chairman said.

He also noted that the date also happens to be taking place more than a month before the planned Barangay-Sangguniang Kabataan elections on December 1.

Malacañang, through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, confirmed the signing of Republic Act 12123, which postpones the Bangsamoro elections.

With the move of the date, elected Bangsamoro officers will take charge by 12 noon on October 30, 2025.
