Outgoing transport chief Bautista convenes agency ahead of turnover

He will be stepping down by the end of next week.

He will be stepping down by the end of next week.

On Friday, February 14, outgoing Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista held a meeting with members of the agency, as well as the executives of its attached agencies.

This concerns his impending exit from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) next Friday, February 21, following his resignation from the cabinet on Thursday due to health concerns.

In his message, Bautista asked his people to “extend the same commitment” to newly-appointed Sec. Vivencio ‘Vince’ Dizon.

With your suggestions, recommendations, he [Sec. Dizon] will be able to continue the mission and vision we have started. Paki-usap ko lang, extend the same commitment or even more commitment to Secretary Dizon,” Sec. Bautista said.

He continued, “All these, hindi lang para sa atin kundi para sa mga kababayan natin for us to be able to serve our passengers.”

Under his term, Sec. Bautista had overseen multiple projects, such as the Metro Manila Subway, LRT-1 extension to Sucat, and the privatization of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Taking over the post that he will vacate will be Vivencio ‘Vince’ Dizon, the former Bases Conversion and Development Authority president and CEO and COVID-19 vaccine czar during the Duterte administration.

Dizon, who currently serves as the chief regulatory officer of Prime Infrastructure, has been “authorized to start the transition at DOTr,” according to executive secretary Lucas Bersamin.

During his term in the BCDA, he was in charge of the construction of New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, which also served as a venue when the Philippines hosted the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
