The President has issued his statement on the late screen icon.

In a social media post, President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. expressed his sentiments on the death of Gloria Romero, who is hailed as the ‘Queen of Philippine Cinema.’

“I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing a great icon in Philippine cinema,” PBBM wrote.

He then recalled his first encounter with the late actress, “I first met Gloria Romero while on the set of filming Iginuhit ng Tadhana.”

“I have been an admirer of her work as an actress, ever since. She was a talented lady, a brilliant artist with the dignity of a true star, but above all else—a fine human being,” the President described her.

“The world of Filipino cinema and all of entertainment will never forget her,” he ended his message.

Gloria Romero passed away at the age of 91 on Saturday, January 25.

Romero began her illustrious career in showbusiness during the post-war era of Philippine cinema.

She starred in many blockbuster movies of her time, with the list including ‘Cofradia,’ ‘Pilya,’ ‘Despachadora,’ and ‘Dalagang Ilocana’ — where she won her first FAMAS Best Actress award.

Aside from those, she was also seen in ‘Bilangin Ang Bituin Sa Langit’ with Nora Aunor, ‘Tanging Yaman,’ ‘Magnifico,’ and ‘Rainbow Sunset.’

On TV, she portrayed the iconic characters Minerva Chavez on ‘Palibhasa Lalake,’ Doña Amparo in ‘Familia Zaragoza,’ Doña Anastacia in ‘Munting Heredera,’ Cecilia Tanchingco in ‘The Rich Man’s Daughter,’ and as the titular Lola Goreng in ‘Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko.’ — which was also her last TV program.
