Over the weekend, multiple threads posted by user vicotinamide on X, formerly Twitter, gained traction among the public.
The said account uploaded snaps of GMA’s iconic television adaptations of Mars Ravelo’s comic ‘Darna,’ which graced screens in 2005 (with Angel Locsin in the titular role) and 2009 (topbilled by Marian Rivera).
Accompanied by some video clips of the series, these threads took many users down memory lane.
Many of them picked their favorite villains in each iteration of the show.
For context, Angel’s Darna took on Valentina (portrayed by Alessandra de Rossi) and several original characters that were specifically created for that adaptation.
Those were Baraguda (Celia Rodriguez), Nosferamus (Tonton Gutierrez), Mambabarang (Eddie Garcia), Dr. Zombie (Christopher de Leon), Sulfura (Carmina Villaroel), Molecula (Cristine Reyes), and Black Darna (Katrina Halili), among others.
Meanwhile, Marian’s take on the iconic superheroine went against Iwa Moto’s Valentina, Babaeng Lawin (Ehra Madrigal), Babaeng Linta (Maggie Wilson), Babaeng Tuod (Francine Prieto), Babaeng Impakta and Impy (Nadine Samonte and Mura), and the Venusa queen Elektra (Regine Velasquez).
Also mentioned in a separate thread was the ABS-CBN adapatation that aired in 2022, which starred Jane de Leon as the main heroine and Janella Salvador as Valentina.
‘Darna’ was first published through an edition of Pilipino Komiks in 1950, later followed by its first film adaptation starring Rosa del Rosario in 1951.
Since then, there had been 14 other films that featured the likes of Vilma Santos, Sharon Cuneta, Anjanette Abayari, Nanette Medved, and even Regine Velasquez.
