His music will be integral to the upcoming local play.
Through a poster released on social media, production group 9 Works Theatrical announced on Tuesday, December 3, the staging of a new musical featuring the songs of original Filipino music (OPM) icon Rico Blanco.
Titled ‘Liwanag Sa Dilim,’ it will begin its run at the RCBC Plaza in Makati City in March 2025, the company confirmed.
It will be based on the story by and under the direction of Robbie Guevara.
Tickets will be released “very soon,” as per the details provided by the production group.
The title of the upcoming play comes from the 2004 single of the Blanco’s band Rivermaya.
The band, formed in 1994, is known for their hit songs like ‘Hinahanap-hanap Kita,’ ‘Elesi,’ ‘214,’ ‘Himala,’ ‘Awit ng Kabataan,’ and ‘You’ll Be Safe Here,’ among others.
In February 2024, the “classic line-up” composed of Rico Blanco, Bamboo, Nathan Azarcon, and Marc Escueta, performed for a special reunion concert at the SMDC Concert Grounds in Parañaque City.
In July, Rico dropped his remastered solo version of the song ‘Kisapmata,’ which is the second release from his upcoming album “containing solo artist versions of his most-loved creations.”
It also a “long overdue response” to a long standing request from his fans, with the first single being the 2023 version of ‘You’ll Be Safe Here.’
