Bookworms, fret not because they are not shutting down anytime soon.

Bookworms, fret not because they are not shutting down anytime soon.

That is the assurance given by popular local thrift bookstore chain Booksale after it was caught in a social media firestorm, as netizens alleged that the entire company will be closing down.

This stemmed from a post on its Facebook page, where Booksale Philippines CEO Josh Sison shared upcoming developments in the company.

“As we enter a new chapter in our bookstore’s story, we want to take a moment to thank you, our loyal readers,” Sison wrote in the beginning of his message.

He then confirmed that while “some” branches of the chain will be closing, they are “excited to continue finding new and creative ways to make reading affordable and accessible as we have done for the past 35 years.”

“We have exciting plans ahead, and we can’t wait to share them with you. So here’s to the stories yet to be told and the adventures that await — both on the page and the world beyond,” Booksale’s CEO ended his message.

The Facebook post containing Sison’s statement then gained traction, and has so far received over 21,000 reactions, with the replies section flooded by supportive comments from long-time customers.

Hence, Booksale issued a clarificatory post on Wednesday night, November 20, where it listed 41 branches nationwide that are operational as of November 2024.

It is down from the 91 locations that the company has declared on its official website.

Booksale is a popular bookstore amongst students and bookworms as it offers various resource materials, both new and secondhand, at a discounted price versus major retailers.
