Filipino fans can catch the performances and highlights of one of the biggest K-pop year-end events without any fees.
On Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, 2024, Pinoy K-Pop fans can now watch the 2024 MAMA AWARDS, presented by Visa, for free through the streaming platform BlastTV.
This is together with the launch of two linear channels, tvN Asia and tvN Movies Pinoy, on the streaming platform to bring Filipino viewers a wide variety of Korean content.
Reflecting CJ ENM’s commitment to elevate K-pop music on a global scale, the 2024 MAMA AWARDS will kick off at the Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on November 22, Philippine time (PHT), and will be held at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan over two days from November 22 to 23 (PHT).
The 2024 MAMA AWARDS will center around the concept of “BIG BLUR: What is Real?,” in a reflection of growing trends on blurred boundaries between industries, culture, music genres and technology.
Under the ‘Big Blur’ theme, the awards ceremony will present surreal but real experiences and showcase visually captivating performances through the convergence of art and technology.
‘Reply 1988’ and ‘Love In The Moonlight’ star Park Bo Gum will be hosting the US show, with ‘Twenty-Five Twenty-One’ lead actress Kim Tae Ri hosting the Japan show.
Among the performers for the 2-day awards show are SEVENTEEN, G-DRAGON, ENHYPEN, TREASURE, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, KATSEYE, aespa, RIIZE, IVE, ZEROBASEONE, and ‘Lovely Runner’ actor Byeon Woo Seok, among many others.
The nominees were announced last October, with groups and soloists led by Jungkook and Jimin of BTS, SEVENTEEN, NCT Dream, Stray Kids, TWICE, Red Velvet, aespa, ENHYPEN, TXT, aespa, LE SSERAFIM, NewJeans, and ZEROBASEONE receiving nominations.
MAMA has also updated its criteria as part of the ongoing efforts to set new standards of K-pop awards, as it also continues to aim to redefine the value of K-pop and highlight every aspect of the genre to be more than just music, but a combination of many things — from music video production, dance, to global competitiveness and so much more.
Boasting a 25-year legacy, the MAMA Awards has been dubbed as the “World’s No.1 K-pop Awards” and is at the forefront of K-pop’s global expansion.
It was originally established in 1999 as the Mnet Video Music Awards, and after a few more rebrands, it was reorganized into the Mnet Asian Music Awards in 2009.
With the exception of editions from 1999 to 2009 and the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, the MAMA Awards have been held outside of its home base South Korea since 2010, with award ceremonies hosted across Asia, including Macau, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Japan.
Pinoy K-Pop fans can watch the 2024 MAMA Awards for free on BlastTV through the linear channel tvN Asia in the Philippines on November 22, 11:00 am (PHT) and on November 23, at 12:00 noon (PHT).
The BlastTV app can be downloaded through Google Play, the Apple App Store, or on its website at blasttv.ph.
