This is to stop illegal vehicles from using the exclusive lane.
In a recent statement, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista said that they are currently conducting fesibility studies to look into the possibility of a switcheroo at the EDSA busway.
“Para exclusive lang yung busway sa buses, for public utility vehicles. Tapos yung pintuan ng bus nasa right side din, so mayroon ding safety considerations,” Bautista said.
In the proposal, bus lanes will run counterflow to the rest of traffic along the major thoroughfare, which spans from Caloocan City in its northern end to Pasay City in the south.
While the possible implementation of such method would be easy in many parts of EDSA, some portions pose serious challenges like the Ayala Avenue area in Makati.
The feasibility study is expected to conclude with its findings before the end of the year.
Aside from that idea, the transportation department is also mulling to reduce the protocol plates used by government officials, with planned limitations of those being for exclusive use of the elected officials themselves.
