The TV personality has dropped his bid for the position.
In a video uploaded on his personal TikTok account, ‘It’s Showtime’ host Ion Perez announced that he is withdrawing his candidacy for the position of councilor in his hometown Concepcion, Tarlac.
“Sa mga ka-lugar ko diyan sa Concepcion, maraming salamat sa tiwala at suporta na ibinigay ninyo sa akin. Pinapaalam ko lang po na hindi na po ako tatakbo o tutuloy bilang konsehal ng Concepcion,” the TV host said.
Perez bluntly cited his lack of experience as the reason for backing out, saying, “[…] gusto ko po munang ihanda ang sarili ko para hindi (ako) mapahiya sa inyo at mapaglingkuran nang tama.”
He then thanked his supporters anew, and apologized to them for his personal decision to beg off.
In early October, Ion Perez filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the position of municipal councilor in Concepcion, Tarlac under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).
At present, he is visible on television daily via the popular ABS-CBN noontime show ‘It’s Showtime,’ where he rose to fame as ‘Kuya Escort’ in the segment ‘Miss Q&A’ that later led to an off-screen romance with main host Vice Ganda.
In 2021, Ion and Vice tied the knot through a private ceremony held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
