Schedule Suggestions: TV5 (September 2024)

Let’s take a look at the possible tweaks that could be done with the network’s current schedule.

Let’s take a look at the possible tweaks that could be done with the network’s current schedule.

It has been three months since the last time there was an edition of Schedule Suggestions. Much has changed and there is plenty that can be made with that of TV5’s programming grid.

Concerning their scheduling pattern, the past few months have been relatively stable for them, with the brief exception being the period when the Kapatid network aired select matches and competitions during the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Although, in recent weeks, there have been shake-ups in its afternoon grid, particularly with the return of ‘Wil To Win’ to its original 5:00 pm slot after a month of experimenting in the earlier and longer 4:30 pm start time.

As a result, TV5 has a lull period of more than 2 hours in its weekday afternoon block, which partially caused the return of this series after almost a quarter.

In this edition, we take a look at the overall scheduling changes that TV5 could consider for their daily programming grid.

  • WEEKDAYS
  • 5:00 am – Word of God
6:00 am – Gud Morning Kapatid (LIVE)
7:30 am – Moonbug presents Cocomelon
    8:00 am – PJ Masks
    8:30 am – Spongebob Squarepants
9:00 am – Cine Cinco Hits
10:30 am – Frontline sa Umaga (LIVE)
    11:00 am – Face 2 Face
12:00 nn – Eat Bulaga (LIVE)
2:30 pm – Ang Himala ni Niño
3:15 pm – Suntok sa Buwan (rerun)

4:30 pm – Wil To Win (LIVE)
6:00 pm – Lumuhod Ka Sa Lupa
6:30 pm – Frontline Pilipinas (LIVE)

    8:45 pm – Lavender Fields
    9:30 pm – Pamilya Sagrado

    10:45 pm – Frontline Tonight
    11:30 pm – Starting Lineup
    12:00 mn – Religious programming

Similar to the past edition, we continue to advocate for the shift of ‘Gud Morning Kapatid’ to an earlier time of 6:00 am to provide an alternative and major free-to-air competition to GMA’s ‘Unang Hirit.’

But the TV5 Kids block will not go away, as it can continue to be aired from 7:30 am to 9:00 am.

The Kapatid movie block ‘Cine Cinco Hits’ can also occupy the 90 minute slot from 9:00 am to 10:30 am, and broadcast opposite GTV’s newly-launched ‘Cinema G’ and the first hour of GMA’s ‘Kapuso Movie Festival.’

‘Frontline Sa Umaga’ can also be detached from ‘GuMoKa’ and aired as a standalone program from 10:30 am to 11:00 am and act as the network’s late-morning rolling newscast.

With that, the tabloid talk and public service show ‘Face 2 Face’ can be transferred back to its original time slot of 11:00 am, and air right before ‘Eat Bulaga.’

After the longest-running noontime show, TV5 can breathe life back to its ‘Hapon Champion’ block by moving its current late-morning inspirational drama ‘Ang Himala Ni Niño’ to 2:30 pm, and take a chance anew at making a dent to GMA Afternoon Prime’s supremacy.

Filling the 45-minute slot from 3:15 pm could be the rerun of the 2022 series ‘Suntok sa Buwan,’ while ‘Frontline Express’ can occupy a longer but relatively concise 30-minute run time from 4:00 pm.

Despite moving back to 5:00 pm just recently, a 30-minute shift back to 4:30 pm could be done for ‘Wil To Win’ so that the action series ‘Lumuhod Ka Sa Lupa’ can take up the pre-primetime news slot at 6:00 pm.

Having ‘LKSL’ at 6:00 pm will help ‘Frontline Pilipinas’ return to a 90-minute-long time slot from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on TV5.

  • SATURDAYS
  • 6:00 am – Word of God
    7:00 am – Kaya. (rerun)
8:00 am – Moonbug presents Cocomelon
    8:30 am – Bluey
    9:00 am – Gabby’s Dollhouse
9:30 am – Fast and Furious: Spyracers
10:00 am – Cine Cinco Weekend Hits
11:30 am – Eat Bulaga (LIVE)
2:30 pm – Top 5 Mga Kwentong Marc Logan
3:15 pm – Julius Babao Unplugged
4:00 pm – Wil To Win (LIVE)
5:30 pm – Frontline Pilipinas Weekend (LIVE)
6:15 pm – Da Pers Family
    7:15 pm – Rainbow Rumble
    8:30 pm – PBB Gen 11
    9:30 pm – Rated Korina
10:30 pm – Cine Cinco Weekend Hits
    12:30 am – Religious programming

Every Saturday, TV5 can use the early morning slot from 7:00 am to 8:00 am to rebroadcast some of News5’s archived programs like ‘Kaya’ or even ‘History’ to provide some sort of educational programming on the time slot.

From 8:00 am to 10:00 am, the TV5 Kids block will take over the air before ‘Cine Cinco’ (at 10:00 am) airs between it and ‘Eat Bulaga,’ which starts at 11:30 am.

To maximize use of the valuable real estate that is the Saturday afternoon block, TV5 could utilize it by airing the light-hearted public affairs programs of well-known news personalities Marc Logan and Julius Babao from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm.

Having in mind the words of host Willie Revillame prior to his game show’s return to 5:00 pm this month, a Saturday edition for his program ‘Wil To Win’ could be in the pipeline. Hence, the 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm slot could be a suitable time for all parties.

The Muhlach family’s sitcom ‘Da Pers Family’ can be shifted from Sunday nights to an earlier time every Saturday evening at 6:15 pm.

The brief reason being that its move to that position will allow TV5 to simulcast ABS-CBN’s weekend marquee shows every Sunday night too.

Jumping to 10:30 pm, the afternoon edition of the movie block ‘Cine Cinco’ can be transposed to late-nights after ‘Rated Korina’ and take over the current time of ‘Wow Mali,’ which can be moved to Sunday evenings.

  • SUNDAYS
  • 5:30 am – In Touch
    6:00 am – Sunday Mass
7:00 am – Pinoy Explorer (rerun)
8:00 am – Moonbug presents Cocomelon
    8:30 am – Bluey
    9:00 am – Gabby’s Dollhouse
9:30 am – Fast and Furious: Spyracers
10:00 am – Cine Cinco Weekend Hits
    12:00 nn – ASAP
    2:15 pm – Sunday Blockbusters
4:00 pm – Gus Abelgas Forensics
    4:45 pm – Budol Alert
5:30 pm – Frontline Pilipinas Weekend (LIVE)
6:15 pm – Kapatid Mo, Idol Raffy Tulfo
7:15 pm – Rainbow Rumble (simulcast)
    8:30 pm – PBB Gen 11 (simulcast)
9:30 pm – Wow Mali! Doble Tama
10:30 pm – American Idol (new season)
    12:30 am – Religious programming

TV5’s Sunday block, at least for this opinion piece, will see only minor changes.

From 4:00 pm to 7:15 pm, the current news and information block will continue, but should be composed of ‘Gus Abelgas Forensics,’ ‘Budol Alert,’ ‘Frontline Pilipinas Weekend,’ and ‘Kapatid Mo, Idol Raffy Tulfo.’

Having ‘Da Pers Family’ transferred to Saturday nights, ABS-CBN shows ‘Rainbow Rumble’ and ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ could finally broadcast simultaneously on all their platforms every Sunday.

Meanwhile, comedy gag show ‘Wow Mali! Doble Tama’ can take over the 9:30 pm slot, and as a result, provide a suitable competition to another comedy show, ‘TBATS Tawa Is Life,’ which airs on GMA.

With the stronger programming line-up that it has right now, TV5 should finally have the confidence to face competition head-on in many time slots.

But that is not to say that it should not do its own way, as keeping the alternative offerings for several blocks across its grid could possibly break the mold, or at the very least, inject more viewing options to an increasingly challenged local television scene.
