GTV adds ‘Cinema G’ movie block; moves ‘Balitanghali’ back to late-morning

The secondary Kapuso channel has a new line-up for its weekday morning grid.

The secondary Kapuso channel has a new line-up for its weekday morning grid.

Beginning Monday, September 16, free-to-air channel GTV will be implementing changes to its daytime programming.

Foremost, the channel has removed the ‘Kiddie Authority’ block consisting of old animé series and in lieu, GTV will be airing a new movie block named ‘Cinema G!’ from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

For the movie block’s maiden presentation, the Philippines’ third highest-grossing film ‘The Hows of Us’ starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla has been scheduled.

‘Cinema G!’ serves as the complementary to ‘Kapuso Movie Festival,’ which airs over at GMA-7 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.

Meanwhile, GMA Integrated News’ longest-running late-morning newscast ‘Balitanghali’ will be finally returning to its more apt former slot at 11:00 am.

The move marks the comeback of Raffy Tima and Connie Sison-led news program to the said time slot, since moving to 10:30 am to give way to noontime show ‘It’s Showtime’ in late 2023.

In the past few months alone, ‘Balitanghali’ had its 60-minute runtime shortened to 30 minutes in April 2024, as GTV began carrying the simultaneous broadcast of noontime variety show ‘TikToclock’ to serve as a back-to-back programming with ‘It’s Showtime’ on both the main and secondary Kapuso channels.

In June 2024, ‘Balitanghali’ regained its hour-long slot, but the caveat being its transfer to its earliest time in its 19-year-long history at 10:00 am.

This was made possible by its merger with former lead-in program ‘Regional TV News’ that same month.

Speaking of ‘TikToclock,’ GTV has dropped the simulcast of the variety show by Pokwang and Kim Atienza, although the program will still continue its broadcast on GMA-7 at 11:00 am from Monday to Friday.
