The stretch of the rail line in Quezon City was hit by a fault.
On Monday, August 19, Metro Manila’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 temporarily suspended operations due to a damaged catenary wire between Katipunan and Santolan stations.
Upon resumption of services, LRT-2 implemented a limited one — as it operated only from its western terminal at Recto station to the Araneta-Cubao interchange.
Trains were not available for commuters that sought to travel from Araneta-Cubao to its easternmost terminus at Antipolo station.
On Tuesday morning, the situation remained the same as between 5:00am and past 6:50 am, the LRT-2 line implemented limited services anew, with trains running from Recto to Araneta-Cubao stations as it continued to fix the damaged catenary wire.
At 6:50 am, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) reported that it had finished fixing the fault, with full service operations from Recto to Antiplo resuming thereafter.
With 13 stations, the LRT-2 line is one of the three main rail lines in the Metro Manila region, and the only one serving as a high-capacity network in an east-west direction.
It is also the only line that operates outside of the National Capital Region upon the opening of its extension to Antipolo in 2021.
