Teck Lee LRT station in Singapore opens to public two decades after completion

It is one of the most interesting stations in the expansive rail network of the island.

On Thursday, August 15, the station gates of Teck Lee light rail transit (LRT) station in northeastern Singapore finally opened to the public for the first time in over 20 years.

The said station, which was completed in 2004 along with the rest of the Punggol LRT line, became operational in anticipation of the opening of the new Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) campus inside the Punggol Digital District in September.

Teck Lee is the last station in the western loop of the intra-town rail line, which had been opened in phases since 2014.

Aside from that, it was also the last fully-built LRT station to remain dormant across the entire network for about 6 years.

Although, trains en route to either Punggol Point (westbound) or Sam Kee (eastbound) continued to make a short stop at the station.

But the caveat is that passengers were not allowed to alight or board from the station as train doors remained closed.

Teck Lee will also complement the upcoming Punggol Coast mass rapid transit (MRT) station in the Northeast Line (NEL), which will directly connect the Punggol Digital District to the rest of the island beginning the fourth quarter of 2024.

Aside from its vast MRT network, Singapore has three full-elevated LRT lines across the island, with the other two being the Sengkang LRT line just south of the Punggol township and the Bukit Panjang LRT line in the western part of the country.
