On Saturday, August 3, gymnast Carlos Yulo particpated in the finals of the men’s gymnastics floor exercise event in the 2024 Summer Olympic games held at the Bercy Arena in Paris, France.

In the said event, Yulo delivered an impeccable performance that impressed both the audience and judges, and earned him a score of 15.000, claiming the top spot in the event immediately.

Although, he was not yet assured of a medal until the last 3 performances, where he still continued to sit on top of the rankings.

After all 8 contestants were through, Yulo bested his opponents and clinched the elusive gold medal of the Philippines from the Olympics.

Gymnasts Artem Dolgopyat of Israel the silver medal after scoring 14.966, while Great Britain’s Jake Jarman brought home a bronze with a score of 14.933 in the event.

‘Caloy’s’ medal is both the first of the country in the current Olympiad and its second gold so far in its 100-year-long participation in the games, which dates back to the 1924 Summer games that was also coincidentally held in Paris, France.

The first gold medal in Philippine history came from the historic weightlifting win of Hidilyn Diaz in Tokyo 2020, which was belatedly held last July 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yulo is set to compete anew tomorrow, August 4, in the vault apparatus event where he also previously qualified to particpate in.

Congratulations, Caloy!
