“Mr. Worldwide Handsome” took on a special role in the world’s biggest sporting event.
Korean pop superstar Jin of BTS represented his home country of South Korea in the torch relay activity done prior to the start of the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Jin brought the torch from the intersection of Avenue Rivoli to the Place Carrousel, before handing it over to French athlete Sandra Laoura in front of the Louvre at around 8 in the evening (Paris time).
Through a statement released by his agency BIGHIT Music, Jin expressed his thoughts about being one of the 11,000 torchbearers in this year’s games.
“It is an honor to be able to participate in such a meaningful moment. Thanks to ARMY, I was able to fulfill the wonderful role of torchbearer. Thank you so much,” Jin said as translated by entertainment site Soompi.
The BTS member also shared that he was “so nervous that I didn’t know how time had passed, but I was able to finish it to the best of my ability thanks to the great support from many people on site.”
Jin also wished Korean athletes the best in the Olympics, and hoped that the same interest would be given to the Paralympic Games in August.
The Olympic torch relay started in the games’ birth place in Olympia, Greece last April 2024.
It is also one of Jin’s first major activities after being released from South Korea’s mandatory military service last June 2024.
