The secondary Kapuso channel turns 3 today.
On February 22, 2021, GMA Network’s secondary channel on UHF television was formally rebranded from GMA News TV to Good Television or GTV.
At launch, the channel carried most programs from its predecessor, including newscasts ‘Balitanghali,’ ‘State of the Nation,’ the simulcast of ’24 Oras,’ movie blocks, acquired foreign shows, and entertainment programs.
As that year progressed, the Philippines’ National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) became the channel’s anchor program for its sports block starting with the league’s 96th season.
Eventually, GMA added simulcasts (and later, second telecasts) of its primetime programs, as well as other shows from across the main channel’s schedule to GTV’s line-up.
Although, that practice has been toned down in recent months.
In July 2023, GTV became the new home of ABS-CBN’s longest-running noontime show ‘It’s Showtime,’ after the program ended its almost one-year-long simulcast on TV5.
