‘Tele-babay, Telebabad’: Kapuso primetime block relaunched as ‘GMA Prime’

The Kapuso network starts 2024 with a refresh.

The Kapuso network starts 2024 with a refresh.

On New Year’s Day Monday, January 1, 2024, GMA Network officially launched their new primetime block.

Named ‘GMA Prime,’ the block replaces ‘GMA Telebabad,’ which was on-air for more than two decades.

Despite the new name for the block, programs remain the same as the flagship newscast ’24 Oras,’ primetime dramas ‘Black Rider’ and ‘Lovers and Liars’ all continue to air, but with slight adjustments to their schedules.

As ‘Love Before Sunrise’ ended its run on the second post-news slot last December 29, its slot was temporarily filled with the returning of ‘Kapuso Primetime Cinema,’ which will air from January 1 to 12 at 8:50 pm.

‘Lovers and Liars,’ meanwhile, will air its last two weeks on a new time slot at 10:05 pm — occupying the slot of Korean series ‘Queen of Masks,’ which is currently on a season break.

‘Amazing Earth’ will also air at a special time for two consecutive Friday nights at 8:50 pm, before moving back to its original time at 9:35 pm on January 19.

Things will then go back to ‘normal’ on January 15 as ‘GMA Prime’ launches two new series back-to-back.

Jennelyn Mercado returns to primetime with Xian Lim for the teledrama ‘Love. Die. Repeat,’ which will air weeknights at 8:50 pm.

‘Asawa ng Asawa Ko’ starring Jasmine Curtis, Rayver Cruz, and Liezel Lopez, meanwhile, will premiere at 9:35 pm and air from Monday to Thursday.

The launch of GMA Prime marks the end of ‘Telebabad,’ which was conceived as the network’s primetime block title back in 2001 — a year before the launch of the ‘Kapuso’ branding.

Apart from that, it also streamlines the major weekday blocks of GMA, with the afternoon programming block being the counterpart ‘Afternoon Prime,’ which was launched first in 2011.

The ‘GMA Prime’ block runs every weeknight from 6:30 pm until 10:50 pm.
