The “new gen phenomenal love team” is back on screen.
On Tuesday, September 5, ABS-CBN released the first sneak peek to the upcoming primetime teleserye titled ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ topbilled by Belle Mariano and Donny Pangilinan — popularly known as the love team ‘DonBelle’.
In the one-minute-long teaser trailer, the contrast between the lives of both Donny and Belle’s characters are seen. Donny will play Bingo, a man from the working class who does several jobs. This is the opposite of Belle’s Caroline, who rides private jet and lives in a mansion.
But their paths cross as Bingo saves Caroline from drowning, based on the trailer. Leading to the end of the trailer, where Caroline shouts for help as she thinks that Bingo is a “kidnapper.”
A separate scene where a drunk Caroline approaches waiter Bingo during a party was also included in the trailer.
‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ is directed by Mae Cruz Alviar, who last helmed the successful KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla) teleserye ‘2 Good 2 Be True’. The drama is under ABS-CBN’s Star Creatives entertainment unit.
CBML will also mark the DonBelle’s comeback, a year after last starring together in the second season of ‘He’s Into Her’ and ‘An Inconvenient Love,’ which was the first Star Cinema theatrically-released movie during the pandemic.
Side note: recently, ‘Inconvenient Love’ also won as Best Asian Film / Telemovie at the ContentAsia Awards 2023.
Back to ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ it is set to air starting in October on the Primetime Bida block of Kapamilya Channel, A2Z Primetime, and TodoMax Primetime Singko of TV5. It will replace ‘The Iron Heart,’ which is now on its last season.
