The said issue began Saturday evening, Manila time.
(JULY 2, 2023) Twitter users reported late Saturday evening that they are having trouble accessing the social network’s app.
A ‘rate limit exceeded’ notification also pops up when scrolling through the app.
Upon checking, however, Twitter’s website is operating as usual, but with the same limits applied.
Later on, the ‘error’ has been confirmed to be part of the capping the number of tweets each users are allowed to view.
According to the social media giant’s owner Elon Musk, the reason behind the move is “to address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation.”
Moreover, verified accounts are limited to reading 6,000 posts a day. Unverified accounts are capped to reading 600 posts a day. New unverified accounts or those created within the past 30 days are only able to see 300 a day.
