Magnitude 6.2 quake rocks Calatagan, Batangas (June 15, 2023)

A powerful quake shook many parts of Luzon, early Thursday morning.

In an advisory, PHIVOLCS reported a Magnitude 6.3 quake, with an epicenter in the town of Calatagan, Batangas at 10:19 am today. The bureau added that damages and aftershocks are expected due to the quake.

The depth is estimated to be at 106 kilometers. Thus, there will no be tsunami threat, PHIVOLCS also said.

Meanwhile, here are the reported intensities, as per PHIVOLCS.

Earlier, the bureau reported that it was Magnitude 6.2, but was elevated to 6.3 in a later bulletin.

Due to the quake, the operations of train lines LRT 1, LRT 2, and MRT 3 in Metro Manila have been suspended. Operations are expected to resume later today.
