In 2020, ABS-CBN launched the Kapamilya Channel on pay television, with livestreaming available on a dedicated website (until late 2020) and iWant. Initially, it was meant to be an interim replacement for the flagship ABS-CBN free TV network, which was shut down on May 5, 2020 as a result of the expiration of its franchise.
However, it has since moved forward to become the flagship channel of the company, airing top-rating primetime dramas, as well as the other major ABS-CBN programs like ‘TV Patrol,’ ‘It’s Showtime,’ and ‘ASAP Natin ‘To.’ Currently, it also holds the distinction as the number 1 pay television channel in the country, raking in viewership higher than that of other free-to-air channels.
