Today, June 13, the channel celebrates its third anniversary.
Exactly three years ago today, Kapamilya Channel was launched as the ‘temporary’ replacement of ABS-CBN on pay television, while the corporation was still awaiting for the result of its franchise renewal bid back then. Fast forward to today, the KapCha has grown to become the number 1 pay television channel in the country.
Fun fact just before we move forward with this article, did you know that Schedule Suggestions’ first edition featured Kapamilya Channel’s very first programming grid? Which means, this series is also celebrating its third anniversary today. Anyway, enough of those celebratory/sentimental remarks and let’s get going with today’s discussion.

Last month, ABS-CBN handed down the decision to close TeleRadyo after the company entered into a partnership with Primemedia Holdings, Inc. The joint venture will oversee the production of news programs on radio and distribute those to third party platforms.

For the weekday grid, it is suggested that the Kapamilya Channel keeps the 3-hour-long news block in the mornings, which is currently used to air TeleRadyo programs ‘Sakto,’ ‘TeleRadyo Balita,’ and ‘Kabayan.’ Once TeleRadyo bids farewell, KapCha could retain both ‘Sakto’ and ‘Kabayan,’ air both programs from 5:00 to 8:00 am, and simulcast them over at ANC. As for ‘TeleBalita,’ it should be absorbed by the remaining shows.
Meanwhile, current noontime newscast ‘Headline Pilipinas’ should also be retained by ABS and air it at a slightly earlier time of 11:30 am on the Kapamilya Channel, upon the closure of TeleRadyo. ‘HP’ could also serve as an alternative to other news programs airing on the slot on other channels, while also giving a boost to KapCha’s current late-morning and noontime block.
Switching to the entertainment side, ‘Magandang Buhay’ could revert to its 8:00 am time slot, which it had for over four years. Such a move will allow them to also gain additional 30 minutes. Apart from that, a switch back could also help them save the TV5 simulcast, of which the future still looks uncertain at the moment. That, as TV5’s new mid-morning show ‘Güd Morning Kapatid’ will air starting June 19 at 9:30 am, affecting ‘Magandang Buhay’s current slot on the network.
On late-nights, Kapamilya Channel could opt to fill its post-‘The World Tonight’ slot with current affairs shows and even lifestyle content from sister channels like ANC, Metro Channel, or Myx. This could help expand viewership for these programs, while also adding a better mix of shows for KapCha.

Starting off with the morning line-up, slight adjustments in the earlier programs could allow the removal of a rather-redundant second film every Saturday on the KB Family Weekend movie block. Apart from that, nothing much will change.
Heading over to the afternoon block, ‘Ipaglaban Mo!’ should move back to the post-‘Showtime’ slot and right before the action movies, which should move to 4:00 pm. In accordance to the updated schedule, ‘TV Patrol Weekend’ airs at 5:30 pm.
However, right after TVP, an iWant Original series or other acquired program could be slotted in. ‘Rated Korina,’ which moves to 6:15 pm starting Saturday, should be placed instead at 9:30 pm. This, as to allow a consistent simulcast across Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, and TV5 from 7:00 pm to 10:30 pm, as ‘RK’ currently airs on channel 5 at 9:30 pm.

Similar to Saturday mornings, there will only be slight adjustments in the Sunday line-up from 5:30 am to noon. But big changes must primarily take place on the afternoon line-up.
First of, in the post-‘ASAP’ slot at 2:00 pm. Since 2018, ABS-CBN, and later, Kapamilya Channel, has had a tradition of showcasing films starring Fernando Poe, Jr. every Sunday afternoon. Although, in recent years, the selection has been drastically limited and movies have become much more repetitive.
To solve this, ABS could consider screening the ‘FPJ: Da King’ block once a month. On other Sundays, they could opt to show films from other Philippine cinema icons, like Dolphy, Eddie Garcia, Susan Roces, among many others. Aside from that, they might also consider showing fresher films on the slot, also at least a one Sunday a month.
Right after the movie block, the 4:00 pm slot, which is to be vacated by ‘Ipaglaban Mo!’ on this suggested schedule, could be utilized to show another well-loved anthology series — Maalaala Mo Kaya. Since there is a good mix of episodes of varying runtimes, mostly 60 or 90 minutes in their original broadcast form, Kapamilya Channel has the option of either letting the 90 minute programs air as is or cut them to fit the 60 minutes time frame as well.
Should it be cut to fit 60 minutes, then at 5:00 pm, right before ‘TV Patrol Weekend,’ ABS-CBN News’ viral ‘Patrol ng Pilipino’ campaign could be re-edited to form a longer program and (finally) air those on television. If that is not possible, Karen Davila’s ‘My Puhunan,’ another well-remembered Kapamilya current affairs program in recent history, is a good program to be re-aired and fill the gap.
As it was already announced, a new ABS-CBN current affairs show ‘Tao Po’ will premiere on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at 6:15 pm. No hosts and official teaser about the program have been released to date.
