‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ rumored to return after 8 years

‘Is that your final answer?’

Rumor has it that the Philippine franchise of ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ is set to return after 8 years, with Robi Domingo as the new game master.

In his posts on social media on May 4, 2023, Domingo posted a poll consisting of three famous ‘lifelines’ in the show: ’50:50,’ ‘Phone-A-Friend,’ and ‘Ask The Audience.’ On Instagram story, he took it one step further by embedding the instrumental soundtrack used by the program.

The first Philippine version of the British game show was aired on IBC in 2001, with Christopher de Leon as its main host. That version lasted more than a year on the air.

8 years later, in May 2009, TV5 brought back ‘WWTBAM’ as part of the network’s Saturday evening block. Hosted by Vic Sotto, the Kapatid version lasted six years on the air, and the series ended in late 2015.

Domingo is also no stranger to hosting the localized version of foreign formats. Currently, he is hosting ‘The Voice Kids’ with Bianca Gonzalez, who is also happens to be his co-host in another franchised program ‘Pinoy Big Brother.’

Domingo’s home network ABS-CBN and ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ franchise owner Sony Pictures Entertainment have yet to issue their official statement on the apparent return of the show’s Filipino version.
