DOH confirms two new COVID-19 cases, total cases now at 5

The Philippines’ Department of Health has confirmed two new cases of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 in the country. This development brings the total number of cases to 5.

According to them, the fourth case is a 48-year-old Filipino man who recently traveled to Japan and returned to the Philippines on the 25th of February. He experienced fever and chills on March 3 and was tested positive for SARS-CoV 2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) on March 5.

The fifth case, on the other hand, is a 62-year-old Filipino man, who has history of both diabetes and hypertension. He was first admitted in a hospital in Manila on March 1 for severe pneumonia. He has also no recent travel history outside of the Philippines. He visits a prayer hall in San Juan City regularly before being tested positive for the virus.

This is the very first time that new cases were recorded in the Philippines after more than a month of zero new cases.
